Sweat bathing has been a long time tradition in many cultures...from the Finnish sauna, the Russian bania, the Turkish hamman, and Native American sweat lodge. A sweat bath can be a spiritual experience, used for health and simply
for a social gathering.

The benefits of taking a sauna bath can be both mental and physical. It is a relaxing experience and helps to reduce stress as the sweating process cleans the pores of the skin, alleviates aches and pains and can help some people sleep more soundly.

There are health risks to consider when taking a sweat bath. You should always consult your physician and do some sauna research if you have health concerns. Care should be taken if you are pregnant, have a heart condition, high blood pressure, asthma or skin disease. Special considerations usually mean regulating the temperature of your sauna.

A spa tub provides therapeutic hydromassage. Immersing into hot water raises the body temperature causing blood vessels to dilate, resulting in increased circulation. A persons buoyancy in the water reduces body weight relieving pressure on joints and muscles creating a relaxing weightless feeling. The massaging jets of water relaxes sore muscles and stimulates the release of endorphins, the body's natural pain killer.

Like the sauna a soak in a spa tub can soothe the soul and reduce stress but should be researched if you have health issues.

The consumption of alcohol should be avoided when taking a sweat bath and/or soaking in a tub. "Personal experience has been a hard yet well learned lesson."
